Gemini adds tools aimed at small businesses

Google announced a business landing page, marketing and finance skills, and additional app connections, with rollout beginning in the coming days.

Kove overview

Small businesses gain another place to test recurring work. Choose one task, verify access and compare the output with your existing process before expanding.

AI coding progress reaches older languages

OpenAI reported improvements in less widely represented programming languages, including COBOL and Visual Basic. Its evaluations examine building software and migrating code while preserving behaviour.

Kove overview

Older finance processes often contain business rules that are easy to miss during a rewrite. Better coding assistance may help investigate them. Preserve expected outputs and test rounding, missing values and exceptional records before considering a migration successful.

Independent evaluation gets deeper access

Anthropic says it has begun giving METR employee-like access to support external risk assessment. METR will publish its findings. The announcement also describes relationships with other evaluators.

Kove overview

For a business selecting an AI provider, evaluation transparency is useful evidence to examine alongside its own testing. Independent model assessment does not validate your specific reporting workflow. Ask what your team will test with representative inputs before relying on an output.

Gemini 4 Argon reaches the app

Google announced Argon in the Gemini app, describing stronger reasoning and coding, clearer progress updates, a task mode and a coding interface in the macOS app.

Kove overview

Progress updates help a team supervise longer work, but they should be paired with evidence at completion. Decide in advance what the finished task must include and which source documents should be available for checking. Test availability in your actual account and region.

Claude’s usage policy is changing

Anthropic announced policy clarifications reflecting longer, more independent AI work, including high-risk uses in finance and health. The announced effective date is 12 November 2026.

Kove overview

Treat policy changes as a reason to review the scope and controls of an existing workflow. Read the provider’s actual policy and check which activities require additional safeguards. A useful finance assistant still needs a clearly defined human decision-maker.

A reminder to check the source behind the story

OpenAI reported banning two influence operations that combined its models with other tools to support misleading front organisations and content. The report describes how apparently credible material can be manufactured.

Kove overview

Research workflows need provenance. A fluent summary or professional-looking website is not enough to establish a claim. For commercial decisions, follow important statements to their original evidence and record where independent verification is still missing.

Haiku 5.5 targets high-volume work

Anthropic introduced Haiku 5.5 for fast, cost-sensitive work such as classification, summarisation and database queries. The release also announced changes to Sonnet cache pricing and API credits for some subscribers.

Kove overview

Routine document sorting may deserve a different model from a complex review. Compare cost per accepted output, including corrections and review time. A cheaper model only improves the economics if it meets the quality needed for that step.

ChatGPT answers become more interactive

OpenAI announced broader GPT-6 access and Intelligent UI, which can present interactive interfaces inside responses. The release describes visual explanations and small tools created around a question.

Kove overview

Interactive models can help a team explore assumptions rather than pass around a fixed chart. Review the calculation logic and labels before using the result in a decision meeting. A convincing interface is a starting point for validation, not proof that the numbers are correct.

GPT-6.1 Sol and the economics of recurring work

OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Sol as an upgrade across coding, computer use and professional work, with lower standard token prices than Astra and lower cached-input pricing than GPT-6 Sol.

Kove overview

Repeated workflows can benefit from reusing context, but model charges are only one part of delivery cost. Include preparation, failed runs, review and maintenance when comparing options. A smaller total cost is meaningful only when the output remains fit for its purpose.

Sonnet 5.5 focuses on everyday delivery

Anthropic positioned Sonnet 5.5 as a faster, lower-cost complement to Opus, highlighting scoped tasks and the creation of documents, slides and spreadsheets. Its performance claims come from provider evaluations and early testing.

Kove overview

For recurring reporting, evaluate the complete deliverable: figures, formulas, layout and traceability. Faster drafting can create room for better review, but only when the team measures both stages. Keep a known-good example to compare across model changes.

More connected apps enter Gemini

Google announced a new group of app connections, including productivity tools such as Airtable, Linear, monday.com and Zoho, alongside creative and lifestyle services.

Kove overview

Connections can reduce manual copying between systems. Start by mapping permissions and ownership: which system is authoritative, what may be written back and who reviews changes? Connecting a tool should simplify a defined process, not make its boundaries harder to understand.

Opus 5.5 expands the complex-work option

Anthropic introduced Opus 5.5 with reported improvements in complex coding and knowledge work, alongside external evaluation and safeguards. Its launch article describes greater cost efficiency relative to Opus 5.

Kove overview

Complexity is a reason to test more carefully. A stronger model may help analyse an awkward workflow, but the organisation still needs to define acceptable evidence and the point at which uncertainty must be escalated. Trial it against the exceptions that make your work difficult.

Live dialogue becomes a more capable interface

Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Live and Live Extended Thinking, describing improvements in voice collaboration, reasoning and complex task execution.

Kove overview

Voice may make it easier to explore a report or explain an exception while working. Preserve the resulting assumptions and actions in writing so the team can verify them. The convenience of a spoken interaction should not make an important decision harder to trace.

Flash 3.8 separates general and cyber use

Google introduced Gemini 3.8 Flash for agentic and reasoning work and a separate Flash Cyber variant for trusted defenders through the Fairwind Program. The announcement distinguishes their deployment environments.

Kove overview

Product names and access conditions matter when comparing tools. Assess the model available to your team against the task you need to complete. Specialised evaluation results do not establish performance on your finance data or confer access to restricted capabilities.

Astra brings a broader set of agent capabilities

OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra announcement describes improvements in computer use, browsing, software engineering and professional work. The article also records subsequent additions to the GPT-6 model family.

Kove overview

An assistant that can act across tools changes the boundary of a workflow. Define what it may read, what it may change and which actions need approval. Evaluate access controls and recovery steps alongside the quality of its answers.
